Research Fellow (Postdoc, Micro/nanomanufacturing)

The Singapore Synchrotron Light Source (SSLS) is a university-level Research Institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS), a premier research university in Asia-Pacific. It is generating and exploiting synchrotron radiation for research and development purposes and provides service for customers including research institutions, industry and institutions of public interest. Synchrotron radiation is produced by a compact 700 MeV electron storage ring with two 4.5 T superconducting dipoles. It covers a spectral range of 7 orders of magnitude from hard X-rays to the far infrared. Five beamlines and experimental stations are in operation comprising a micro/nanomanufacturing facility (LiMiNT), a phase contrast imaging and tomography beamline (PCIT), a soft X-ray facility for surface, interface, and nanostructure science (SINS), a hard X-ray facility for diffraction, absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence (XDD) and an infrared spectro/microscopy facility (ISMI). A beamline for electron and photon beam diagnostics (EPD) is under commissioning and an X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy beamline (XAFCA) under construction.

Research at LiMiNT is focused on electromagnetic metamaterials, infrared and X-ray optical devices, and on the development of X-ray nanolithography towards 10 nm resolution. Commercial services to customers cover a wide spectrum from facility usage to mask making and the manufacturing of customized devices, frequently mould inserts.

At LiMiNT, SSLS has a job opening for a

Research Fellow (Micro/nanomanufacturing)

who is expected to strongly contribute to

  • the application of existing processes and techniques for the manufacturing of micro/nanostructures and devices, in particular, to nanomanufacturing processes including e-beam writing and X-ray lithography,
  • the improvement and extension of existing, and the development and characterization of new processes, and
  • the research into new devices and methods.

The successful candidate should possess

  • a PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline,
  • experience in micro/nanomanufacturing and process development, in particular, e-beam writing, laser writing, and deep X-ray lithography/LIGA, as well as
  • good planning, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and an excellent command of English, spoken and written.

He/she will report to the Head Micro/Nanomanufacturing at SSLS.

SSLS/NUS offers

  • a three-year contract, renewable depending on performance, featuring a competitive remuneration package commensurate with qualification, skills and experience and
  • interesting and challenging work at the forefront of research among a young and highly motivated team.

Fresh PhD graduates are encouraged to apply. The position will be open until a suitable candidate has accepted the job offer. The announcement will then be withdrawn from SSLS’ and NUS’ websites. Please send your application with a CV, resume of professional achievements, list of publications, copies of supporting documents (educational certificates, testimonials etc) and a recent photograph to:
